Jung Young-In

Kim Byeong-Cheol
Abstract
Patients with body dysmorphophobia who preoccupy with the size or shape of penis and seek augmentation penoplasty usually lack self-confidence for masculinity. They feel crisis of gender identity which has resulted from unresolved oedipus complex.
Some patients with less severe symptoms could be occasionally satisfied with the result of surgery, which would rather be harmful than helpful for the majority of patients.
Since patients seeking augmentation penoplasty usually have an unrealistic and magical effect for surgery. They are actually apt to be disappointed with the result of surgery.
To undergo a surgical operation unconsciously means self-punishment or gratification of masochistic desire. Therefore, when the surgeon plans to perform an operation on the patients seeking augmentation penoplasty. the more detailed psychiatric evaluation should be done prior the operation.
